"Alindahaw" is a Mindanaoan dialect for dragonfly which was chosen to be the name and logo for the hotel because of its beauty and symbolism.

In many cultures, the “alindahaw” is regarded as a symbol of light, adaptability, grace and transformation. No wonder that “alindahaw” holds out its wings so straight and proud. It is not only one of the most brilliant and beautiful insects, but it is also rich in meaning.

Its ability to reflect and refract light makes “alindahaw” not only as light bearer, but also of power and everything that is associated with light and love. “Alindahaw” reminds us that we too, should be light bearers. It silently encourages us to make our own light shines forth. Due to its variety of colors, it exhibits the many colors of life. Upon maturity, “alindahaw’s own true color comes forth as it learns to blend, shift, and adapt light in many ways. These bright colors take time to develop, but are always worth the wait because they ultimately reveal the insect’s deepest inner beauty. ”Alindahaw” demonstrates the utmost adaptability and gracel. No bird or other insect has the flight maneuverability like that of the “alindahaw”, which can quickly change directions when necessary. They are experts at going where they need go and at doing what they need to do. Traditionally, “alindahaw” is the symbol of transformation and life’s ever-constant process of change. Although, “alindahaw” spends majority of its life on the bottom of a pond as a larva, it always rises above as time calls for. “Alindahaw” works its way through the weight of water and into the sunlight, gathering and garnering its protective casing and flies away from the pond, to ultimately unite with other “alindahaw”, which have also completed their transformation and are even more vibrant and alive.

Pagadianons are lovers of music. A well-known Visayan song – “Ako’y Pobreng Alindahaw”, which talks about a poor dragonfly, which keeps on transferring from one plant to another and from one flower to another. This song became part of the family’s life that the husband keeps on singing it in any occasions. The dragonfly symbolizes his life with no preference as to whom he will associate with. Just as the dragonfly is free to go from one flower to the other regardless of its kind, the life of this man is free to associate to everyone regardless of his or her race, religion, customs, practices and traditions. Thus, the name Hotel Alindahaw came into being.
